Photo of the Day — Day 195
I don’t watch a lot of television, and I have even gone years at a time either without a television or without cable TV, which amounts to the same thing. Nonetheless, in my limited viewing, I have noticed that the New Year always brings with it some TV-related indicators: lots of Weight Watchers and tax preparation commercials. When I moved to Staunton, I hear people talk about the Liberty Wavers, and at first I had no idea what they were talking about. By the beginning of February, though, I figured it out. Liberty Tax (http://www.libertytax.com/default.aspx) hires folks to stand outside their offices to advertise their services, and they dress them in Statue of Liberty costumes; they stand along side the road, waving at all the passing motorists, beckoning them in to have their taxes done. S. and I made our usual weekend pilgrimage to Blue Moon Diner for brunch, and on our way back, we stopped by the local CVS to pick up some medication for S.’s sinus and inner ear infection. As we approached the CVS, we saw a group of Liberty Wavers just down the block, one of the surest signs that tax season is upon us. I took a couple of photos, and I couldn’t decide which one I liked better. I like the light better in the close-up, but I like the way the way the Waver echoed the large foam Liberty statue in the background on the other. So I decided to post them both and let you decide.
