Photo of the Day — Day 209
I’m from Illinois, and although I’ve lived in Virginia since 1994, I have not yet fully adapted to one part of life here in the Commonwealth: the lack of snow in the winter. I may sound like your cranky old grandpa when I say this, but when I was a kid, sometimes we had snow so high that we had to push hard on the front door to bust through a snowdrift before we could leave the house.
In the time since I moved to Virginia, I’ve spent entire winters without seeing any snow, and I could count the number of good snowfalls on one hand. Unfortunately, we’re much more likely to get an ice storm than a blizzard, and given the hilly terrain, ice is especially deadly around here. It hasn’t snowed here yet this year, and with the unseasonably warm weather, it looks like we may go another year without any snow. This morning, though, there was a layer of ice on the trees, which I found quite beautiful, so I decided that for today’s photos of the day, I would offer up a few images of trees enrobed in ice.
