Photo of the Day — Day 222
The weather can often be the focus of discussion in all sorts of situations, the kind of safe topic that you bring up with people you don’t know while you’re at a bus stop or on the train or waiting in line at the grocery store. “Is it cold enough for ya?” or “Man, it’s like a furnace out there!” or some such. When the weather is so out of character, like it has been this winter, it sometimes seems like folks can’t talk about anything else.
I went out for lunch with a friend and co-worker today, and it was once again warm enough that I didn’t even need a jacket, which is certainly noteworthy up in the mountains of Virginia in February. Imagine my surprise, then, when my nose detected the smoke from a fire in the fireplace at the Cracker Barrel restaurant! A fire in almost 60 degree weather? Really? It does set a mood, though, so nobody seemed to be complaining.
